- Ability to perform a job with an acceptable input costs and efficient processes to produce output and outcome commensurate with the industry standards.
- The knowledge, skills and attitude of a person that is causally related to superior job performance.
- A vocational, job applied and not restricted to theories only,
- The right knowledge, skills and attitude to perform at the right standards.
- It is about carrying out a job with a set of duties and tasks with a clear set of efficiency and performance measures.
- Hence, competent workers are those trained in tool and model applications identified as best practices in the industry.
- Competency is the ability to undertake a job at the lowest input costs, through efficient work processes that produces best standard results.
- Building a competency is about eliminating competency gaps along the value chain.
- Competency building is about upskilling and producing standard or higher work output and outcome.
- Competency is the people input and the best performance is the output.
- Competency is the ability to produce job output efficiently.
- Work must be measured and rewarded based on performance.
Competency could be divided into:-
- Technical competency (your special knowledge and skills in a particular trade )and
- Management competency - maximizing team output and outcome.
